StemWizz Wooden Scales Balance Experiment
A grain of rice will tip the scale!
Create your very own retro wooden scales experiment by first building a base with wooden parts and screws. Next add and secure the central pole, finally add and secure the overhead beam to the central pole and attach the plates to either side of the scales.
Young people will learn about the principle of leverage. This wooden balance scale makes the perfect introduction to the concept of mass and weight. While we have advanced in weight and measuring practices, these scales were used as far back as the Romans and beyond and were very important devices which relied on straightforward but efficient methods to measure and weigh goods.
